Shim'un, brother of Kasha Mattai, beside an Assyrian rock relief
A young man in a white-sleeved shirt and striped trousers stands beside a weathered rock-cut Assyrian stele inscribed with cuneiform. Gertrude Bell's archive identifies him as Shim'un, brother of Kas Mattai, pastor of the Protestant Nestorians, on 14 May 1909.
