Browsing the archive
You don't need an account to use the archive, and we don't run advertising or tracking cookies. The site is served through Cloudflare and Vercel, which see your IP address and keep short-lived request logs to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We use your approximate country, as Cloudflare reports it, only to show supporter prices in euros or dollars; we don't store it.
Supporters and gifts
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card or bank details. From Stripe we receive your name and email address, the amount and plan you chose, and anything you type into the optional fields at checkout.
- The name, dedication and website you enter appear publicly on the supporters wall. Leave the name blank to give anonymously.
- Your email address stays private. It's used for receipts and, rarely, to contact you about your support.
- To change or cancel, use the link on the support page; Stripe's own privacy policy covers payments.
Writing to us
If you email us, for example with a correction, a photograph or a question, we use what you send to reply and to improve the archive. Photographs you share are credited as you ask.
People in the photographs
The archive holds pictures of real people and families. If you appear in an item, or it shows a relative, and you would like it changed or removed, tell us and we'll act quickly.
