St Thomas Christians of Malabar in the Códice Casanatense, about 1540
Watercolour from the Portuguese Códice Casanatense (about 1540) showing a Christian man and woman of the Malabar Coast either side of a cross on a stepped base; the inscription calls them Malabarese made Christians by Saint Thomas. At the time Kerala's Christians were under East Syriac metropolitans sent from Mesopotamia.
