Patriarch Mar Shimun, engraving from The Graphic, 1882
Wood engraving of the Patriarch of the Church of the East, captioned "Mar Shimoor", seated in robes and a dark turban with a pectoral decoration and a crook-handled staff. One of nine engravings on The Graphic's 1882 page on the Archbishop of Canterbury's mission to the Assyrian Christians, taken from E. L. Cutts's book "Christians under the Crescent in Asia". The patriarch at the time of Cutts's 1876 visit was likely Mar Ruwil Shimun XVIII.
