Jilu Assyrian men lined up before a British officer, Hamadan
A long line of men in felt caps, turbans and baggy trousers stands facing a British officer in a pith helmet and shorts. The Imperial War Museum titles it "Jelus at Hamadan" (Ariel Varges, Q 25017); the caption describes them as the first Assyrian recruits for the British-officered Levies, 1918.
